290 setup
I'm often ask for more detailed setup information so I thought I'd get a few pictures of mine to pass along. Keep in mind that I'm not saying this is the only setup to run. There are a lot of things can can effect the setup that may be right for you! The HP of the motor, prop, driving style, wind and water contitions, heat racing or just for fun all efect how your boat will need to set setup for you. I hope this will help you get started in the right direction!
Starting with a "out of the mold" 290
Motor: CMB/RS
.21 no mods to motor
Head set at .008
Fuel: 60%Redmax
Pipe: Silver Bullet .21 HP
Prop: Ernie Lafleur Special T101
his # 409 296 2052
Boat weight: Less fuel RTR 7lbs.
Balance Point: 8 7/8
Dead Weight: 7 3/8oz.
With this shot you can see my depth and motor angle. You may also notice that I have shortened the skeg a bit and I'm also using the 7.5 foot. I like the larger flex shaft, less trouble!
This shows the motor setback which is not necessary but makes refueling easier, with the cowl on. Also notice the remote fuel valve mounted on top of the transom and fuel tank location. Also BE SURE to tape off the access hole in the tramson before you run the boat. It does have flotation but keep out as much water as possible to be sure you don't loose your boat!
This shows the "dead weight" location I use to get the cg on the boat. It is mounted by a piece of wood glued to the hull with a 1/4 bolt inserted up through it. This makes it easier to change the weight if needed.
This may be hard to see but I pull out a couple of coils from the glo plug. This helps the motor to come up on pipe easier and if you have to chop the throttle quick also helps keep the motor from dying.
With this setup I've won a lot of races. It has not always been the fastes boat there but I manage to get a good start, and stay on the bouys!
